Research Progress on Ceramic Matrix Composites for Aviation Applications
Ceramic matrix composites for aviation applications are required to exhibit typical characteristics of high temperature resistance and long service life. At present
the materials that can meet these requirements mainly include two categories: oxide fiber-reinforced oxide (oxide/oxide) composites and silicon carbide fiber-reinforced silicon carbide (SiC/SiC) composites. In recent years
with the increasing demand for high-temperature performance of aviation equipment and the continuous improvement in the technical maturity of ceramic matrix composites
ceramic matrix composites have been widely used in hot-end components in the aviation field. This paper introduces the fabrication processes and typical characteristics of oxide/oxide composites and SiC/SiC composites
and reviews the current application progress of these two materials in aviation. In addition
the research progress of ceramic matrix composites in design verification
machining
joining
and non-destructive testing technologies is also presented
which provides a reference for the engineering application of these materials.
