EDM technology has become a mature and indispensable processing method after continuous and rapid development for many years. New processes
methods and equipment emerge in an endless stream. How to improve the machining efficiency has become the focus of human attention
but it is not obvious to improve the processing efficiency through various processing methods. The electrical discharge machining must avoid arc discharge in order to prevent damage to the workpiece. However
if we can control the break-make process of the arc effectively and remove workpiece material by using high energy density of arc
it will improve the efficiency of discharge machining greatly. This is a new direction of high efficiency discharge machining in recent years. In addition
EDM ablation uses spark discharge as the induced energy to cause a controlled combustion reaction between metal matrix and the incoming oxygen. It uses chemical energy produced by the combustion reaction to remove workpiece material. The energy of ablation is much larger than that of pulse power supply
and it is another new direction of high efficiency discharge machining. This paper summarizes the research status of high efficient processing methods
including EDM
arc discharge machining and electrical discharge ablation machining.
